Physical Education
Overview of KS3
In Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils will have 2 lessons of PE per week. They will follow a broad and varied curriculum rotating activities every half term.
Activities may include badminton, gymnastics, outdoor activities, athletics, cricket, rounders, tennis, hockey, netball, football, dance, rugby, basketball, table tennis, volleyball, trampolining, and Health and Fitness. They also complete some work on basic first aid.
Overview of KS4
Core PE within KS4 builds upon the foundations of KS3 curriculum intent in terms of core skills, advanced skills, decision making and tactical awareness. Students will also take on more leadership, organisational and officiating roles. Pupils have one lesson a week and rotate activities.
Activities may include:
Netball, Hockey, Football, Rugby, Fitness, Aerobics, Dance, Handball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Trampolining, Dodgeball
Sport Studies
Student follow the OCR Sport Studies course which consists of 3 units. One of these is examination based which is completed at the end of Y11. Students will complete classroom based theory lessons to learn about the following topics:
- Sports Participation
- Values of sport
- Olympics & Paralympics
- Sports initiatives
- Drugs in Sport
- Major Sporting events
- National Governing Bodies
Students will also complete practical lessons covering a range of activities where their performance is assessed along with their leadership skills. There is also a unit covering the role of the media in sport which is assessed through a series of assignments.
These assessments are made on a Pass, Merit and Distinction basis.
